Submitting new file formats to the database

Rules

It is possible for any user to submit new content that will be added to the magic database,, with proper credit, but the following conditions must be met:

The submitter should submit a specification of the file format, or an official link to the file format specification.
The submitter should submit an example file that can be used to test the magic database
The submitter should give information on the origin of the file format, as well indicate if this file format specification is still active and maintained and/or widely used.

We strive to make identification of the file by at least a 4 byte identifier, so as to avoid any false reports in the file identification process. Files that have less than a 4 byte identifier mark may be added to the internal database but not in the file identifier tool database.
